Best Dessert Places in Lahore: #10 Layers

The hype is real, has been the slogan for many of the followers that layers has amassed within a few months in Lahore. Not much is known about its owner but as far as the rumors go, layers is said to be a copycat of another bakery brand in Karachi and the owners own both the brands. We don’t know this for certain, however what we do know is that the hype that Layers Bakeshop has created is in fact for genuinely good products. They started as a small shop in DHA phase 3 and have expanded to Johar town, DHA phase 2 and MM Alam road (Gulberg).

 With the rise of premium wannabe bakeries like kitchen cuisine in Lahore, the overall trend started shifting towards overly pricing products with inherently low value but high perceived quality. Layers however, broke that trend heads on by introducing high value products for insanely low prices. Literally they sell Ferrero ocher cupcakes for 150 each and lotus biscoff cakes for 1900 rps or so (we hope you know how much the lotus spread costs).

Trust us, the first time you’ll have their desserts, you will be startled and rather proud that Pakistanis are able to run a business, shoulder to shoulder, with the quality standards that foreigners have achieved. Talking about their products, here is a snapshot of what they offer:

Best Dessert Places in Lahore: #9 Dessert Directory

This fairyland like, once small kiosk, has turned into one the most well known brands for desserts in Lahore. It was all the craze a few years ago and still manages to stay up to trend by introducing new and exciting desserts for us to try. We remember visiting DD when it first opened and we were welcomed by two extremely nice and cultured ladies. Their humbleness and proactive personality really made us feel ultra welcome and these exact qualities is what enabled these ladies to bring such an innovative concept into fruition. For those who don’t know, DD allows different partner businesses to sell their signature desserts at their outlet in return for a commission from the sales. It’s a nifty idea and we aren’t complaining!

With a never ending supply of unique desserts, Dessert Directory has always maintained a standard that many of their customers appreciate. From the famous, “Myne’s Icecream” to their array of freshly baked cupcakes and fruit tarts, they have got it all. Our recommendations for items to try would be there mocha cup, crème brulle and especially their Nutella cheese cake

We love the fact that the owners never allow their team of homebased bakers to display to the same item and for that we award DD the award for the most “innovative and versatile bakery” in Lahore.

Best Dessert Places in Lahore: #8 The Kitchen

This simple named restaurant has won the hearts of many of its customers by consistently providing us with fantastic, fresh and flavorful food options. The ambiance is great to our liking and the place is tucked in one of Lahore’s busiest town AKA Gulberg 2. The Kitchen became popular by first introducing coffee that has their customer's face printed on it. From their onwards their success has just been up up and away!

Just look at that god damn beauty above! If you haven’t tried their lotus cookie skillet than boy! you are missing out on dessert heaven. There cookie skillet is their featured dessert in our list and in fact they are mainly famous for this single product. Back in the day, it was a new concept for us desi Lahoris and has hence attracted a lot of customers. Now of most days, their café is crowded with people, especially during highlighted occasional nights.

As per most reviews, their food is always excellent, as with the staff and ambiance.  The only critique we have are with their cold pizza fever. They are infamous for serving cold pizzas and fries, so please find a solution for this "The Kitchen!

Best Dessert Places in Lahore: #7 Café Zouk

Lahore’s first boutique style café is well known for its lavish décor and tasteful ambiance. The dining experience is more of a journey and the service is comparable to global standards. Situated in one of the busiest roads in M.M Alam road, this café has gained a lot of popularity amongst well off Lahoris; especially for their mediterranean and pan-asain cuisine.

 

If you’re scratching your head as to why we mentioned café zouk as a contender for the best dessert place in Lahore, its because of their cheesecakes. Café Zouk’s cheesecake is always a major reason why people prefer going there. They have a few flavors that we highly suggest, you give a try. Their strawberry cheesecake and English bread pudding are their best in our opinion.

From all the reviews that we have analyzed and from our own experience, we can conclude that there is very little room for improvement. However, one thing that should be put into focus is the pricing and the quantity of food that they serve (but for desserts, the quantity isn’t an issue so win win!)

Best Dessert Places in Lahore: #6 English Tea House

The English Tea House has been here for quite some time, yet still known by very few people. It was set up in 2010 and started as a tea and dessert shop. As of now it has become a very popular foodie destination for people that prefer the true English style of food. On top of that, they offer breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner as well (Now that’s English for you!).

We’ve included the English Tea House mid way between our list because they offer authentic and one of the best western desserts. There dessert menu includes the following:

• A lot of options for the best waffles in Lahore
• Cheesecakes
• Toffee pudding
• Icecream shakes and smoothies and assorted beverages
• Tea and coffee (what you’d expect, their English!)

Right now, they are open in Gulberg 2 and DHA Phase 5. If you’ve heard a lot about the place and haven’t visited yet, we’re pleased to inform you that the rave reviews are not fluff. They truly offer a unique and pleasant experience, the ambiance is just serene and the service is comparable to most 5 star restaurants. Our recommendation is for you to visit with friends and have their waffles for breakfast (You won’t regret it)

Best Dessert Places in Lahore: #5 The Delicatessen/Sweet Affairs

Now that we’re half way done, we’re about to get serious. Sweet affairs has always been a popular choice when it comes to all things sweet. This would happen to be our third time recommending sweet affairs and for good reason. Their commitment to quality service and finding new and inventive ways to serve us really makes it a top notch café in Lahore. Infact, one could argue that it's one the best cafés in Lahore! It’s situated in Gulberg 2 and is always jam packed with happy customers. Started by Saniya Waqar, this place always offers the best food however we’ve heard a one or two complaints about bad service.

We live for their dessert offerings and as per most reviews, their molten lava cake and cookie skillet are the most talked about! The ambiance is glamorous and they offer a wide array of dessert options that include things like their Lahore famous, “cookie shot with vanilla milk”. It’s a must try and the best part is that you can eat the cup later! 😊

Best Dessert Places in Lahore: #4 Butler’s Chocolate Café

Highly expensive products are only worth it when their equally highly exceptional. Butler’s chocolate café gives us just that and honestly, how can one go wrong when it’s all things chocolate. If you’re a chocolate lover, there is no better place than this Butler's Café. It’s to some extent become a status symbol in Lahore. They have two branches at the moment, one being in Gulberg 3 and the other in the very famous “Packages mall”.

Do we really need to even review their products. It’s a given that everything there is super premium however out of all the items, what give the biggest bang for the buck are their dark chocolate desserts. Their famous lava cake is a taker and one should never leave the door without taking a chocolate shake along with! Their shakes, in our opinion, are the best Lahore has to offer and if you’re looking to amaze your guests then this Café should be at the top of your visit list.

Best Dessert Places in Lahore: #3 Rina’s Kitchenette

Our personal favorite has entered the list and we’re sorry if we get a little biased here. Rina’s started as a humble small outlet in DHA and from there on out, they’ve taken over the Lahori public by storm. From their beef burgers to their Nutella caramel brownies, Rina’s has always offered us with a cut above service, exceptional staff and nutritious and wholesome food options.

Just to give you an idea, this café serves their own authentic Italian “Bresaola with Mushroom” pizza topped with their homemade buffalo mozzarella cheese. So these type of offerings might give you an idea that they aren’t messing around! Next to layers, Rina’s offers the best cakes, particularly their caramel crunch and Nutella caramel one. If you’re holding a birthday party anytime soon, thank us later! You simply can’t go wrong here, definitely worth a try!

Best Dessert Places in Lahore: #2 The Sweet Tooth

Honestly we’re a little sick of recommending sweet tooth now. They literally pop up in the top place for almost every review site we’ve foraged through. Undoubtedly, they have with great effort and never ending commitment to innovation, made it to the top of the food scene in Lahore. Moreover, what started as an adventurous small café, has now become an inter country phenomena (Literally, you can now enjoy the sweeth tooth experience in Muree aswell). Kudos to the owner, Mr Umer Hussain (shown above) for satisfying our sweet tooth all these years.

 

These guys have seriouslty upped their game even further during the pandemic. Their restaurant in Gulberg is a show stopping piece of art! Our absolute favorite dessert is their cookie skillet topped with vanilla icecream and one of their more trendier options nowadays are their chocolate gol gappas. Now that’s something you don’t see everyday and we are living this fantasy that they have created. Highly recommended and one for the icecream lovers aswell!
